Australia Crush Ireland by 67 Runs in Colombo T20 World Cup Clash

Australia Crush Ireland by 67 Runs in Colombo T20 World Cup Clash

[ Poll: vwG8l0y3 ]

Australia won big in Colombo. They beat Ireland by 67 runs with a strong all-round performance. It was a great start to the tournament, as Australia began their campaign in style with a clear and confident victory.

Earlier in the day, Australia won the toss and opted to bat first on a dry surface here in Colombo. They didn’t have the best of starts as Travis Head was run out in just the second over for 6. Josh Inglis (37 off 17) and Cameron Green (21 off 11) then counterattacked brilliantly, stitching together a quick 49-run stand to cash in during the field restrictions. That partnership was broken in the 5th over, but Australia still finished the Powerplay strongly at 64/2.

Matt Renshaw (37) and Marcus Stoinis (45) then steadied the innings with a crucial 61-run partnership, laying the platform for a competitive total. Some handy cameos from Cooper Connolly (11* off 8) and Xavier Bartlett (11* off 6) down the order provided the late flourish as Australia posted a solid 182/6 from their 20 overs. Mark Adair, with figures of 2/44, was the pick of the bowlers for Ireland.

Australia Dominate Ireland in Colombo Clash

In reply, Ireland endured a nightmare beginning. After facing the very first ball, skipper Paul Stirling walked off injured, seemingly struggling with a calf issue. Nathan Ellis made things worse by striking three times inside the Powerplay, while Matthew Kuhnemann chipped in with a wicket as well. Ireland were left reeling at 40/4 after 6 overs.

Lorcan Tucker (24) and George Dockrell (41) tried to revive the chase with a 46-run partnership, but the wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals. Adam Zampa removed both set batters in successive overs, and Australia wrapped up the tail swiftly as Ireland were bowled out for 115 in 16.5 overs. Stirling was officially retired out and Australia completed a dominant 67-run win. Nathan Ellis (4/12) and Adam Zampa (4/23) emerging as the standout bowlers.
