Asia Cup U19 Final: India Thrashed by Pakistan as Minhas Stars with 172

Asia Cup U19 Final: India Thrashed by Pakistan as Minhas Stars with 172

[ Poll: oZzOkrwM ]

India U19s’ trouble may have begun with one poor decision. After winning the toss, captain Ayush Mhatre chose to bowl first on a Dubai pitch that seemed perfect for batting. And then Pakistan opener Sameer Minhas went on to capitalise, scoring 172 from 113 deliveries, taking his side to a mammoth 347/8 in 50 overs.

That was enough to secure a 191-run win over India, as Pakistan U19 won their first-ever Asia Cup trophy. Minhas, who had been excellent in the entire tournament and had slammed 177 vs Malaysia, rocked the opposition once again. He went on to slam 17 fours and nine sixes, and picked up from where he left against Bangladesh in semis, there he slammed 69 not out.

Pakistan U19 Crush India in Asia Cup Final as Sameer Minhas Stars

In addition, Ahmed Hussain (56) was a contributing team member, however, as far as the rest of the players, for the most part, it was a far larger one-man show that took India apart. Left-Hand Seamer Kishan Kumar Singh had a tough game as he conceded 50 runs off 5 overs (10 runs an over). Deepesh Devendran picked up 3 wickets but gave away a total of 83 runs. Kanishk Chouhan had a terrible day, picking up 1 wicket while conceding 72 runs.

The whole scenario for the 348-run target that India was chasing is totally the opposite of how the match ended. With all players contributing to the total, India were dismissed for just 156 runs, with Devendran scoring the most runs for India with a score of 36. Vaibhav Suryavanshi gave a fiery start (26 from 10), but could not continue with his hitting prowess.

Ayush Mhatre was big flop on the day of the final and was out for 2. Despite a rousing start of 32/0 in only two overs, wickets from there on led to India’s downfall. No partnerships could be forged, as Ali Raza returned with figures of 4/42. Mohammad Sayyam, Abdul Subhan and Huzaifa Ahsan, all picked up two wickets, which broke the backbone of India’s batting.
