Afghanistan Crush Bangladesh by 200 Runs to Complete 3-0 ODI Series Sweep
Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh by 200 runs in the third ODI on Tuesday at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, completing a clean 3-0 series win. After scoring a strong total of 293 for 9, Afghanistan bowled out Bangladesh for only 93 runs, returning the favor for Bangladesh’s 3-0 win in the T20 series earlier on the tour.
Ibrahim Zadran and Mohammad Nabi anchored Afghanistan’s innings with steady half-centuries, as fast bowler Bilal Sami claimed his maiden five-wicket haul. Rashid Khan once again shone with the ball, picking up three wickets in his first three overs and leading the way for Bangladesh’s quick collapse.
Bangladesh’s batting fell apart early in the innings. Mohammad Naim scored only seven runs from 23 balls before Azmatullah Omarzai got him caught at slip. Saif Hassan tried to fight back with a few boundaries, including two sixes and a four, but received little support from his teammates. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto’s poor form continued as he was bowled by Bilal Sami after an inside edge.
Rashid Khan bowled a great spell, getting Towhid Hridoy out with his first ball. Saif Hassan was out soon after, but he was Bangladesh’s top scorer with 43 runs from 54 balls, hitting two fours and three sixes. Bilal Sami then got Mehidy Hasan Miraz caught behind for six, and Shamim Hossain was run out right after. Rashid trapped Nurul Hasan lbw in the 21st over, and Sami finished the job by taking three more wickets Tanvir Islam, Rishad, and Hasan Mahmud to complete his five-wicket haul.
Explosive Finish Pushes Afghanistan to 293/9
Earlier, Afghanistan got off to a solid start with a 99-run opening partnership between Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Gurbaz scored 42 with five fours and a six, while Zadran made a fifty and added another 74 runs with Sediqullah Atal. Afghanistan were cruising at 173 for 1 in the 32nd over, but Saif Hassan’s part-time off-spin slowed them down, taking three wickets in four overs as Afghanistan lost four wickets for just 15 runs.
Omarzai kept Afghanistan’s innings steady with a few boundaries, while Mohammad Nabi finished strongly in the final overs. After Nahid Rana bowled only two legal balls in the 49th over, Nabi went on the attack smashing Mehidy Hasan Miraz for three sixes in four balls and then hitting a six and three fours off Hasan Mahmud. Afghanistan scored 44 runs in the last two overs to end on 293 for 9, giving Bangladesh a huge target to chase.
