West Indies Announces 15-Man Squad for India Test Series 2025

West Indies Announce 15-Man Squad for India Test Series 2025On Tuesday, September 16, Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced their 15-man squad for the upcoming Test series against India. The two teams will face off in the first Test on October 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, followed by the second Test starting on October 10 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

The upcoming Test tour to India will be West Indies first away series in the new ICC World Test Championship cycle. In their first home series of the WTC 2025-27 cycle against Australia, the Caribbean team suffered a heavy defeat losing all three matches. For the high-profile series against India, the Roston Chase-led squad has recalled Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Alick Athanaze, while spinner Khary Pierre has received his first-ever call-up to the national team.

New Additions to Strengthen Batting and Bowling

The West Indies team has made a few changes from the side that played against Australia. Kraigg Brathwaite, Keacy Carty, Mikyle Louis, and Johann Layne have been left out. The team is hoping Chanderpaul and Athanaze will give a big boost to the batting, while spinner Pierre strengthens the bowling. Big names like Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, and Jayden Seales are also in the squad. Gudakesh Motie will miss the series as he gets rest to stay fresh for upcoming limited-overs games.

The Caribbean players will leave for India on September 22 and arrive in Ahmedabad on September 24. Once there, they will start their training ahead of the series.

“The return of Tagenarine Chanderpaul is to help transform our fortunes at the top of the order given the recent struggles, with Alick Athanaze being added for his strengths and qualities against spin bowling. Khary is included for the first time as our second spinner in what we expect to be helpful conditions,” head coach Daren Sammy said in a statement.

“Our approach to squad selection continues to be calculated and deliberate. We consider the opposition, the playing conditions, and the skill sets required to be successful against specific opposition. The inclusion of players has therefore been guided not only by their recent performances, but also by identifying who within our pool is best suited to deliver positive results on these surfaces, against this quality of opposition."

"At the same time, we are conscious of building continuity and depth in our Test squad as we look to compete consistently throughout this World Test Championship cycle.” CW Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe said.
