Lalit Modi, the founder, first chairman, and commissioner of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has shared never-before-seen footage of the infamous “slapgate” from the very first season of the tournament. The video shows former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh slapping ex-India pacer Sreesanth during the usual handshakes after Match 10 of the 2008 IPL, played between Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians in Mohali.

The incident quickly grabbed the world's attention since it happened in the very first season of the IPL. Now, after more than 17 years, Lalit Modi has shared the video himself on Michael Clarke's Beyond23 Cricket Podcast. When Clarke asked Modi if Harbhajan really slapped Sreesanth, Modi didn’t hesitate and said, “Yes, it happened. Absolutely. And I’ll tell you what happened.”

"One of my security cameras was on because I was walking onto the field, and it caught the moment. As players were exchanging handshakes, Bhajji just looked at Sreesanth, said something, and gave him a backhander. That’s what the footage shows revealing that one of his own camerapersons captured what the television cameras missed and kept the video "back for 18 years," Modi added.
"I haven’t put it out for so long. But yes, it happened,” Modi further said.
Harbhajan and Sreesanth: From Clash to Reconciliation
After the incident, Sreesanth was visibly upset, and his teammates tried their best to calm him down. The video shows Harbhajan approaching him to make amends, but the Kings XI Punjab bowler clearly wasn’t ready to accept it.
Harbhajan faced immediate consequences for his actions, he was suspended for the entire season and banned for 11 matches after being found guilty of misconduct. Later, he apologised, and the two made up. Eventually, they even played together in India’s World Cup-winning team in 2011.
