Virat Kohli Reaches 4th in ODI Batting Rankings, Aims for Rohit’s No.1 Spot; Kuldeep Yadav 6th Among Bowlers
India’s batting star Virat Kohli is now just 32 points away from the top spot in the ICC ODI batter rankings. He reached this after scoring his 83rd international century. Kohli made 135 runs off 120 balls in the first match of India’s three-match ODI series against South Africa in Ranchi. Because of this innings, the 37-year-old moved up one place to fourth in the latest ICC ODI batter rankings.
Kohli’s rating has now increased to 751 points. He is just 32 points behind his teammate Rohit Sharma, who is at the top of the ICC ODI batter rankings. Kohli was the No. 1 batter for more than three years at the end of the last decade. He lost the top spot in April 2021 when Pakistan’s Babar Azam became No. 1.
There was more good news for India as experienced left-arm bowler Kuldeep Yadav moved up one place to sixth in the latest ICC ODI bowler rankings. Rohit Sharma increased his lead at the top, ahead of second-placed Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand and Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran in third. Kohli moved past teammate Shubman Gill to fourth, closing in on Rohit at the top.
In Pakistan, Saim Ayub returned to the No. 1 spot in the T20I all-rounder rankings after their tri-series win over Sri Lanka. He scored 36 runs and took a key wicket in the final, regaining the top position he first reached in October.
Teammates Abrar Ahmed (up four places to fourth) and Mohammad Nawaz (up two spots to 11th) also rose in the T20I bowler rankings. Nawaz moved up three places to fourth among all-rounders after being named Player of the Tournament.
Sri Lanka’s Kamil Mishara performed well in the tri-series, scoring 169 runs in four innings. He jumped from outside the top 100 to 18th in T20I batter rankings. Bangladesh players also gained after their 2-1 series win over Ireland. Parvez Hossain Emon moved up 21 places to 38th, Towhid Hridoy up five places to 42nd, and Mustafizur Rahman rose two spots to eighth among T20I bowlers.
South Africa saw big gains after their Test series win over India. Left-arm pacer Marco Jansen moved up five places to fifth among Test bowlers and reached a career-high in ratings. Simon Harmer jumped 13 places to 11th after taking 17 wickets and being named Player of the Series.
Jansen also moved to second in Test all-rounder rankings. Other South African batters also rose: Kyle Verreynne up three spots to 38th, Ryan Rickelton up five places to 39th, and Tristan Stubbs up 16 spots to 47th.
