Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s fearless knock powers Rajasthan to dominant win over RCB

Rajasthan beat the defending champions easily. They chased 202 runs with two overs left and stayed at the top of the table. It was Vaibhav Sooryavanshi who stole the spotlight tonight. There were conversations aplenty about how will he fare against the illustrious new ball bowling duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood. But the teenager did exactly what we have become accustomed to see him do. 

He played his shots with an audacity that left us all gasping. The swing of his bat was robust and fearless. Whenever he connected, the ball flew to the fence like a missile. 15 out of the 26 deliveries he face yielded boundaries. By the time he finally mistimed one off Krunal Pandya's bowling, the damage had already been done. Rajasthan were on their way.

They did have a wobble in the middle, went from 129/1 in 8 overs to 134/4 in 9.4 overs, but Dhruv Jurel's composure and Ravindra Jadeja's experience ensured that there were no more hiccups. The right-hander completed another half-century, while the southpaw played the perfect sidekick in a 50-ball unbeaten stand of 68.

Some would say that the match was lost in the first half, with RCB putting up an under-par score after being asked to bat first. But in all fairness, they had done well to get to 201/8 after being reduced to 125/7 earlier. The home team had begun on the perfect note, Jofra Archer delivered an absolute snorter to Phil Salt and dismissed him even before the spectators had settled in their seats.

He then removed Devdutt Padikkal with another fiery delivery. Virat Kohli did play some enthralling shots, but his innings had the life of a firecracker, it was sparkling but short-lived. Then, Ravi Bishnoi spun a web. Brijesh Sharma too struck twice and suddenly, the visitors were in tatters.

However, Rajat Patidar kept fighting. The pugnacity of his innings did not effect the aesthetics of his shot-making, they were just as pleasing to the eye as they usually are. RCB were forced to make a tactical change too, they brought in Venkatesh Iyer as the Impact Player. The captain's knock of 63 (40) and the all-rounder's sprightly cameo of 29* (15) propelled them over 200. But against the whirlwind called Sooryavanshi, it turned out to be an underwhelming return.
