Suryakumar Yadav Resumes Training at NCA After Sports Hernia Surgery

Suryakumar Yadav InjuryIndian T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav is back on the field after recovering from surgery for a sports hernia. The 34-year-old had traveled to Germany for the procedure in July and has now begun light training at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. As per ESPNcricinfo, SKY had his first net session last week. His fitness will be closely monitored and he will gradually increase his workload as the Asia Cup 2025 approaches. The tournament starts on September 9 in the UAE and India’s first match is against the host team on September 10.

Surya was expected to be back for the Bangladesh series in August, but with that series now postponed to next year, his return will be delayed. This is actually Surya’s third surgery in three years – he had an ankle surgery in 2023 and then the same sports hernia surgery again this year in 2024.

"Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I 'm already on the road to recovery. Can't wait to be back (sic)," Surya wrote in a instgram post.

Asia Cup 2025: A Crucial Tournament for Suryakumar Yadav’s Career

Suryakumar Yadav had a great IPL 2025 with Mumbai Indians scoring 717 runs, the second-most in the season. Only Sai Sudharsan scored more. He became the second MI player after Sachin Tendulkar to score over 600 runs in one season. His performance helped MI make the playoffs, where they beat Gujarat Titans but lost to Punjab Kings. Surya was named the Most Valuable Player. After IPL, he played for Triumph Knights Mumbai North East in the T20 Mumbai League scoring 122 runs in 5 matches, but his team won just one game and finished 6th.

Suryakumar's next big task is the Asia Cup in the UAE, set from September 9 to 28. The exciting T20 batter is expected to captain India. Mumbai Cricket Association officials say he's confident he'll be fully fit for the tournament. His last appearance was in the IPL, where he played for Mumbai Indians.

Iyer’s Expected Return to Competitive Cricket: The Asia Cup or Duleep Trophy?

Shreyas Iyer recently visited the Centre of Excellence (CoE) for fitness tests returning to Mumbai afterward. Reports suggest the visit was for routine assessments, and Iyer is now fully fit and ready for action. He is expected to play in the Duleep Trophy, unless he gets called up for the Asia Cup.

Iyer’s last appearance was in the IPL final, where he captained the Punjab Kings. Following his strong performance in the IPL, there was much speculation about him being included in the Indian Test squad for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, but the expected call-up did not happen. The Duleep Trophy’s four-day matches begin on August 28 in Bengaluru, with the West Zone team, which is seeded directly into the semifinals, starting their campaign on September 4.
