SA20 Final: MI Cape Town Ends Sunrisers' Reign, Claims Maiden SA20 Trophy

Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s winning streak in SA20 has come to an end. MI Cape Town secured a strong 76-run victory, stopping the Sunrisers from winning the league for the third time in a row. Batting first, MI Cape Town put up a solid total of 181 runs. In response, Sunrisers Eastern Cape struggled and got all out for just 105 runs.

Connor Esterhuizen (39) and Dewald Brevis (38) played key knocks to help MI Cape Town reach a competitive score. Kagiso Rabada then shined with the ball, taking four wickets to seal the big win.

It was the second bad loss for Sunrisers franchise owner Kavya Maran. In the last season, she saw her team lose to Kolkata Knight Riders in the final of IPL by a big margin. Now, in the SA20 2025 final, it was the same, another losing experience.

This is the 11th T20 title for the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise. The Sunrisers Eastern Cape domination in SA20 has come to an end after winning the last two editions consecutively; they were not able to grab the third in a row this time.

"First of all, the boys put up a great performance. We fought hard to reach 180, and it feels great to get the job done. It’s a beautiful place to play, and the tournament is well followed. The pitch had some help for the bowlers, which was nice. Our players stepped up at the right moments this season," said Trent Boult, who won the Player of the Match award.
