SA20 2025-26: Keshav Maharaj Appointed as New Captain of Pretoria Capitals

Ahead of the fourth season of the South African T20 League, Pretoria Capitals has appointed veteran spinner Keshav Maharaj as its captain. The franchise announced this on its X platform. Keshav Maharaj will replace Rilee Rossow as captain of Pretoria Capitals.

Last season, Maharaj captained the Durban Super Giants. The franchise said in a release, "Keshav Maharaj's presence will provide a strong balance to the team in the new season. Keshav Maharaj is one of the biggest players in South Africa. He plays all three formats and has also captained the national team."

Keshav Maharaj, a right-handed bat and left-arm bowler for India, is one of the most successful and decorated cricketers in the world.

In a video shared on the franchise's 'X' platform, Keshav Maharaj said, "I thank the Pretoria Capitals for appointing me as captain. We have a very good team. We have excellent players like Dewald Brewis, Lungi Ngidi, Sherfane Rutherford, Roston Chase, Andre Russell, and Shai Hope.

Effective left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj was part of the Durban Super Giants for the last three seasons. Between 2023 and 2025, he took 27 wickets in 33 matches. Maharaj has played 40 T20 matches for South Africa, taking 38 wickets during this period. His best spell is 3 for 27.

Maharaj is also a useful lower-order batsman. The fourth season of the South African T20 League will be played from December 26, 2025, to January 25, 2026. The Pretoria Capitals will begin their campaign on December 27 against the Joburg Super Kings.
