Rohit Sharma Expected to Undergo Surgery Post-IPL 2025 to Return Strong for 2027 ODI World Cup: REPORTS

Rohit Sharma Expected to Undergo Surgery Post-IPL 2025 to Return Strong for 2027 ODI World Cup: REPORTSRohit Sharma is likely to have surgery soon to fix a chronic hamstring issue that has troubled him for nearly five years. With no bilateral ODI series scheduled until India hosts one in October, the senior opener and ODI captain has a rare chance to take a break and get the much-needed surgery on his left hamstring.

Sources close to Rohit Sharma say his hamstring injury has been bothering him for years, but leading India across all formats left him little time to properly recover. Now that he has retired from T20Is and Tests, this phase seems to be coming to an end. With his focus shifting primarily to ODIs and the 2027 World Cup, Rohit is expected to undergo surgery on his left hamstring once the IPL concludes. Many have questioned his ability to play long innings lately, and it seems this hamstring problem may have been a big reason also affecting his movement on the field.

Rohit Sharma’s Leadership Responsibilities Delayed Surgery

“If Rohit wants to play the 2027 World Cup, this is the right time to get the surgery done. He has been putting it off for years because of leadership duties, but now the schedule allows him to recover without rushing back,” a source close to Rohit Sharma told CricBlogger.

Neither the BCCI nor Rohit Sharma have said anything official yet, but it seems like he’s planning to focus just on ODIs and get ready for the next World Cup fully fit and fresh. Since the ODI schedule isn’t too packed, he’ll have enough time to properly recover. He had a similar surgery back in 2016 and took about three months to bounce back. So, after this hamstring surgery, we can expect him to be back on his feet in around three to four months.

Things have gotten tough for Rohit Sharma. During IPL 2025, he was often seen sitting out while Mumbai Indians batted and his limited movement and careful batting showed how much the injury has affected him. It’s clear the hamstring issue has been taking a big toll on his game.

Asia Cup 2025 and Bangladesh Tour in Doubt Amid Political Tension

India’s next ODI series is planned against Bangladesh in August, but that tour is uncertain after a senior Bangladeshi official made some harsh comments about India. If it goes ahead, Team India’s next big event would be the Asia Cup 2025, which is also unsure due to tensions with Pakistan. The next confirmed ODI series is in October against Australia. Since Rohit Sharma has retired from T20Is and Tests, and with no matches in those formats coming up, the period right after IPL 2025 is the perfect time for him to have surgery and focus fully on the 2027 ODI World Cup.
