Rashid Khan Ruled Out of India Test, Returns for Afghanistan ODI Series

Afghanistan have announced their squads for the one-off Test and three-match ODI series against India, with Hashmatullah Shahidi set to lead the team in both formats. Star spinner Rashid Khan has been excluded from the Test squad but will return for the ODI series.

Rashid Khan, who returned from injury after undergoing surgery following the 2023 ODI World Cup, had earlier revealed that doctors advised him to stay away from the longer format of the game.

Therefore, he is not a part of the one-off Test against India, which commences just days after the conclusion of IPL 2026. But he will be a part of the Afghanistan squad for the three-match ODI series. Rashid is a part of GT, who are playing the Qualifier 1 against RCB in Dharamshala on Tuesday.

“ODIs, yes, I enjoy, and I’m in good shape to play ODIs for a longer period of time for Afghanistan, but just to be careful with how many I play, and not to put too much load on myself, to be careful if I want to play for a longer period of time,” Rashid had said earlier.

The one-off Test against India will not be part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. However, the three-match ODI series is expected to serve as an early step in preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup for both teams.
