PCA to Honour Harmanpreet Kaur: Mullanpur Stadium Stand Named After World Cup-Winning Captain

Harmanpreet Kaur’s name will now be a permanent part of the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA Stadium in Mullanpur. After guiding India to their first-ever Women’s Cricket World Cup win, the Punjab Cricket Association has decided to name a stand after her.
It’s one of the biggest honours a cricketer can receive, and this recognition stands out as one of the most meaningful moments in the history of women’s cricket in India. Harmanpreet recently guided the Indian women’s team to a truly historic moment. India co-hosted the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup with Sri Lanka, and their captain joined legends like Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni, and Rohit Sharma by lifting a World Cup trophy.
India pulled off the unimaginable when they defeated Australia in the semi-final with the highest run chase ever in Women’s ODI cricket. They then went on to beat South Africa in the final, sending the entire nation into celebration and pride.
PCA to Honour World Cup-Winning Captain Harmanpreet Kaur With Dedicated Stadium Stand
Speaking at an event with CNN News18 on November 28, Harmanpreet confirmed the news publicly for the first time.
“I have already received a letter from PCA saying that they will soon unveil a stand after me at Mullanpur,” she said.
The recognition comes less than a month after India’s tense win over South Africa in the final, a result that ended decades of close calls and heartbreak. India had reached the final in both 2005 and 2017 but could not go all the way.
This time, they edged out defending champions Australia in the semi-final before overcoming South Africa in a nervy finish. Harmanpreet Kaur herself played a great innings in the semis, giving support to Jemimah Rodrigues, who dished out an innings of a lifetime.
“Lifting the World Cup was a dream we cherished since childhood, the pay parity and the Women’s Premier League (WPL) initiatives have been immensely helpful.” Harmanpreet said.
Harmanpreet received the Champion of the World award at the CNN-News18 Indian of the Year event, which was also attended by Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami. Recently, a stand at the Vizag stadium was named after Mithali and Ravi Kalpana, and now the Mullanpur stadium will have a stand named after Harmanpreet too. The Indian women’s team will be back in action in December for a five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, their first games since winning the World Cup.
