Pakistan Cricket Board Retains Salman Ali Agha and Mike Hesson Despite T20 World Cup 2026 Failure

Pakistan Cricket Board Retains Salman Ali Agha and Mike Hesson Despite T20 World Cup 2026 Failure

[ Poll: ayM4kOwM ]

Usually, when the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Pakistan team fail in an ICC tournament, some big changes happen and important people lose their jobs. This time was no different. After Pakistan failed to reach the semifinals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, it became clear that Salman Ali Agha and Mike Hesson were likely to be removed from their roles.

In fact, when PAK was alive in the tournament, there were murmurs, that Shadab Khan could replace Agha as the T20 skipper. But it seems that the PCB wants to break the trend and wants to look good. As per a report in GeoSuper.tv, the duo of Agha-Hesson are here to stay. Further Shaheen Shah Afridi has been retained as the ODI skipper.

PCB decides to keep Agha and Hesson despite World Cup failure

Shahid Afridi and the team’s coach have been told to focus on preparing the team for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. The only change will be in the Test team. Azhar Mahmood has stepped down from his role, and Sarfaraz Ahmed has taken his place. The High Performance Director Aaqib Javed stays too. But Aleem Dar has resigned from the position of a selector and will be replaced soon.

As for Pakistan’s campaign, they lost badly to India national cricket team by 61 runs. One of their Super 8 matches against New Zealand national cricket team was also washed out due to rain, which made their situation even worse in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Post that, a loss against England followed.

Against Sri Lanka, they had to win by a certain margin to keep the NRR is check, but that did not happen as well. Now Pakistan is due to play three-match ODI series against Bangladesh, from March 11. Babar Azam has been sacked from the team, in a format that he favors the most.
