The Solid Start
At the start of the day, when New Zealand came to bat, the openers gave them a solid start with a 105-run opening partnership. Tom Latham scored a half-century with nine boundaries. At the same time, Will Young was eight-run sort from his fifty. After the dismissal of Will Young at 105, Latham and Williamson tried to build a partnership, but Latham also got out in the 45th over.
After Latham's wicket, wickets fell continuously every 5-6 overs. The team had a solid opening partnership, but middle-order batters didn't capitalise on that. Except for Glenn Philips, every batter got the start and played more than 25 balls, but none converted it into a big innings.
Williamson’s Bizzare Dismissal
When Ken Williamson was batting at 44 runs, he got dismissed in a way we see very rarely; he defended a good length ball from the pacer Matthew Potts; the ball hit his pad and went towards the stumps in a try to save the ball from hitting the stump, he kicked the stump and got out.

Tim Southee, who is playing his last test match tried to resist the continuous wicket fall and contributed to a 50-run partnership with Mitchell Santhner, which led the team to score above 300. Mitchell Santhner scored a half-century with seven boundaries and two sixes.
Henry’s Spectacular Catch
After Matt Henry had hit a six, he tried to hit it again on the bowl of Ben Stokes. The ball went on to fine-leg, where Harry Brooks was fielding and made a spectacular catch. He caught the ball, threw it inside the ground and then caught it back again.
