Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the 2025 Champions Trophy due to a foot injury
New Zealand's star bowler, Lockie Ferguson, will miss the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a foot injury. In Ferguson’s place, Kyle Jamieson has been replaced in the squad. Jamieson is a tall pacer, replacing Ferguson’s place in a high-pressure tournament like the Champions Trophy will be no easy task.
The news comes one day before New Zealand's first match against Pakistan on February 19 at the National Stadium in Karachi.
BlackCaps head coach, Gary Stead, shared his frustration over Ferguson’s injury.
"We’re really disappointed for Lockie,” said Stead.“Lockie is a key part of the bowling group and brings a lot of major tournament experience and we know how much he was looking forward to representing New Zealand at another major event."
Ferguson has struggled with recent injuries. Not long ago, while playing for the Desert Vipers in the UAE’s ILT20, he suffered with a hamstring injury. That setback forced him to miss New Zealand’s recent Tri-Nation series against South Africa and Pakistan a tournament the Blackcaps went on to win.
At 33, Ferguson has been a key figure in New Zealand’s bowling attack, with 99 wickets in 65 ODIs. With the Champions Trophy approaching and some of the world’s best teams to face, his absence will be a big blow for the Kiwis.
