New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will not join the squad for the second Test against India due to an ongoing injury sustained during last month’s tour of Sri Lanka. He will remain in New Zealand to focus on his rehabilitation. In his absence, Will Young stepped up to bat at No. 3, scoring 33 and an unbeaten 48 in the first Test held in Bengaluru.
New Zealand coach Gary Stead provided an update on Williamson's condition, stating, "We’re monitoring Kane closely; he is progressing but hasn’t reached full fitness yet. We are optimistic for further improvement in the coming days and hope to have him available for the third Test. We will give him as much time as needed to prepare, while remaining cautious."
New Zealand currently leads the three-match series 1-0 after securing an eight-wicket victory in the first Test. Rachin Ravindra was named Player of the Match for his impressive century in the first innings and a crucial 39 not out during the chase. Additionally, bowlers Matt Henry and Will O'Rourke made significant contributions, taking eight and seven wickets, respectively. The team traveled to Pune on Monday evening and will hold their first practice session in the city on Tuesday.
