IPL 2026: Chennai Super Kings Officially Respond to Player Release Rumors Ahead of Auction
The Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction for the 2026 season will happen in December this year. As the big cricket event gets closer, fans are excited to see how each team will release or keep their players. Chennai Super Kings, who have won the IPL five times, are in the spotlight this year after finishing last on the points table for the first time in their history. According to Cricbuzz, the team led by Ruturaj Gaikwad is planning to let go of Sam Curran, Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi and Devon Conway.
With all the buzz on social media, CSK finally responded to the rumors about player retention. The popular IPL team updated its bio on X (formerly Twitter) to clear the air. The new bio says, "Nothing's official till you see it here."
Before changing the bio, CSK also posted, "Don't worry, we've updated the bio."
CSK received an extra ₹9.75 crore in their auction budget after Ravichandran Ashwin retired from the IPL earlier this year. The team had a poor IPL 2025 season, winning only 4 out of 14 matches and their campaign suffered further when captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined midway due to a hairline fracture in his elbow. MS Dhoni took over as captain for the rest of the season, but he couldn’t turn things around for CSK. During IPL 2025, his batting spot became a hot topic as the wicketkeeper-batter came in at No. 9 twice sparking plenty of debate.
The IPL 2026 mini-auction will be held in India from December 13 to 15, with all teams required to submit their final retention list by November 15. Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson is likely to enter the auction unless a last-minute trade happens. Other possible players in the auction include T. Natarajan, Mitchell Starc, Akash Deep, Mayank Yadav, David Miller and Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer. Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is also expected to be in high demand.
