IPL 2025 Points Table: Team Rankings After GT vs LSG Match

Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans took a major blow to their hopes of finishing in the top two of the IPL 2025 table after a 33-run loss to Rishabh Pant’s Lucknow Super Giants on May 23 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. LSG posted a huge total of 235 runs, a brilliant maiden IPL century from Mitchell Marsh and a quickfire fifty by Nicholas Pooran, leaving GT with too much to chase.

At first, GT's strong top order failed, but some big hitting from Shahrukh Khan and Sherfane Rutherford helped them get back into the game and for a while, it looked like they might even chase down the huge target. But GT then lost wickets quickly in the final overs and ended up far from the total. Even though GT has already made it to the playoffs, this loss has hurt their chances of finishing in the top two.

Even though GT lost, their spot in the standings didn’t change — they are still at the top with 18 points. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) both have 17 points. These three teams have already made it to the playoffs and MI joined them on May 21. RCB and PBKS can still go past GT if they win their remaining matches. RCB have two games left to play, while PBKS have one more league match.

If RCB lose a match, they could drop to third place, behind PBKS. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have no chance of making it to the top 4. Also, MI, who have 16 points from 13 games, can go ahead of GT if they win their last match against PBKS on May 26, because they have a better net run rate.
