ICC Warning Prompts Pakistan to Consider Skipping India Clash at T20 World Cup - Report

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is apparently exploring their options in order to express their not satisfied against the International Cricket Council (ICC) and its failure to allow the Bangladesh cricket board's request to shift their matches from India. This includes boycotting their pool stage fixture against India in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on February 15.

Pakistan Weighs Skipping India Clash After ICC Rejects Bangladesh’s Venue Request

As per a Pakistan news source, Geo News, they are keeping their options open at the moment. While not participating in the game against India is one option, another route to take at the moment would be to withdraw from the tournament as well. The two teams will compete against each other in the Group A match. They may also meet each other in the semi-final or the finals later in the tournament.

As per the suggestions given in the report, it has been mentioned that if Pakistan does end up boycotting the match, the game as it stands shall be skipped, with the two points being given to the Indian team. On top of that, it has also been mentioned that the Skipping end up being a financial loss for the Pakistan Cricket Board.

It was earlier reported by the source that the International Cricket Council had given Pakistan a stern warning following the talks of a possible boycott. If Pakistan were to pull out of the tournament, it would be detrimental to their future financially as well as structurally, concerning the PCB. Further, they would also be damaging their reputation in international cricket.

PCB chairman, Moshin Naqvi said that,

“We are waiting for the prime minister to return. Bangladesh has been treated unfairly. I said the same in the board meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC). You cannot have double standards, where one country can make whatever decision whenever and do the total opposite for another country. That is why we have taken the stand that Bangladesh is being treated unfairly and should be allowed to play the World Cup in any case.

They are a major stakeholder, and this injustice should not be done. The thing is that Bangladesh is the same member as Pakistan. And our stance is that if you have done this favour with Pakistan and India, then you should do the same with Bangladesh. The main reason for this is that one country cannot dictate to another. And if this dictation is attempted, then Pakistan definitely has its own stance,”

Both India and Pakistan have agreed to this before the 2025 Champions Trophy, in which both teams have decided that they will play in a neutral location whenever any of the teams is hosting the ICC tournament till 2027, due to the high tensions between both countries.
