ICC Test Rankings 2025: Root and Bumrah Hold Top Spots, Pant and Duckett Make Big Gains
India’s explosive wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has jumped to a career-best 7th in the latest ICC Test rankings for batters, thanks to his two brilliant centuries in the first Test against England at Leeds. Shubman Gill, India’s new Test captain, also made a move up climbing five spots to 20th after his century in the first innings. Even though India lost the match by five wickets despite setting a tough target of 371, Pant’s performance stood out. He also became just the second wicketkeeper ever to score two centuries in the same Test match.
Before 27-year-old Rishabh Pant matched the feat, Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower was the only wicketkeeper to score two centuries in the same Test. Pant smashed 134 and 118 in the thrilling Leeds Test, which England won by five wickets. On the bowling side, there wasn’t much change in the rankings India’s pace ace Jasprit Bumrah held on to the top spot after picking up another five-wicket haul at Headingley.
England Stars Climb ICC Rankings After Headingley Win
Ben Duckett was named Player of the Match for his brilliant knocks of 62 and 149 in England’s win, moved up five spots to 8th in the ICC Test batting rankings. His teammates also saw a boost, Ollie Pope climbed three places to 19th and Jamie Smith made a big jump going up eight spots to 27th. At the top, Joe Root continues to lead the rankings with fellow Englishman Harry Brook close behind at No. 2.
England captain Ben Stokes moved up three spots to 5th in the Test all-rounder rankings after making solid contributions with both bat and ball in the same match.
Najmul Hossain Shanto Breaks Into Top 30 After Twin Tons
The drawn first Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh saw several players from both sides make progress in the latest Test batting rankings. Mushfiqur Rahim led the way after his impressive knock of 163 in Galle, jumping 11 spots to reach 28th. His teammate Najmul Hossain Shanto made an even bigger move climbing 21 places to 29th after scoring two centuries in the same match.
After the tri-series in Glasgow between the Netherlands, Nepal and Scotland, the T20I rankings saw big changes. Dutch batter Michael Levitt moved up 16 spots to 14th after some strong games. Scotland’s Brandon McMullen did really well too, jumping 20 places to tie for 38th. Since ICC rankings are the main way to judge a player’s form, every run and wicket keeps changing the world cricket standings.
