Bangladesh Aims for First Test Win Against South Africa
CHATTOGRAM, Bangladesh (AP)—Despite a disappointing start, Bangladesh is determined to secure its first Test victory over South Africa as the second and final match kicks off on Tuesday. Following a historic 2-0 series win against Pakistan, Bangladesh struggled in its recent matches against India and in the first Test against the Proteas.
Although South Africa had not won in the subcontinent since 2014, they triumphed in the opener by seven wickets, capitalizing on Bangladesh's lackluster batting performance that saw them bowled out for just 106 runs. "Our goal is to win the second Test," stated left-arm spinner Taijul Islam. "We need to perform as a team, whether it's batting, bowling, or fielding. We're committed to giving our best."
With the recent win, South Africa remains unbeaten against Bangladesh, boasting 13 victories and two draws in 15 Tests. Taijul emphasized the importance of building partnerships at the crease, stating, "If we can establish a few solid partnerships and have some players score half-centuries or centuries, we can achieve our target." The team is focused on overcoming their batting challenges as they look to improve in this match.
Meanwhile, South Africa's aspirations for a series victory are not overshadowed by their potential to reach the World Test Championship final.
