Tom Latham Expresses Pride After Historic Test Series Win in India
On October 26, New Zealand achieved a historic milestone by clinching their first-ever Test series victory in India, marking a significant moment in the nation’s cricketing history on their 13th tour to play red-ball cricket. Building on their impressive win in Bengaluru, the Black Caps secured a commanding 113-run victory in Pune, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Remarkably, this success comes on the heels of a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Sri Lanka just a month prior. New Zealand captain Tom Latham was visibly emotional during the post-match press conference, expressing his pride in the team's achievement.
"I'm somewhat lost for words," Latham admitted. "This is an immensely proud moment for our group. Coming off a Sri Lankan series where we didn’t achieve the results we wanted, to come here and perform the way we did is truly special. We’re incredibly proud to have won two Test matches in India."
Latham also reflected on the challenges faced by previous New Zealand teams in India, emphasizing the significance of this victory. "Many New Zealand teams have come here in the past, and to be the first to win a series is immensely special. I’m very proud of this group."
With the series still ongoing, the Black Caps will aim to capitalize on their momentum as they prepare for the final Test.
