Karachi Kings’ Johnson Charles exits PSL, replacement named

by mishaalmubarak

Karachi Kings have named South Africa’s Reeza Hendricks as the replacement for one of their foreign picks, Johnson Charles

Charles bought at the auction

The West Indian cricketer pulled out of the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season after being signed by Kings during the auction for PKR 20 million.

Charles informed the franchise of his full-season unavailability. Hendricks has previously played in the league, having represented Multan Sultans in eight games during the 2024 edition. He was Multan’s second-highest run-getter that season, having notched up 304 runs at a strike rate of 143.

Is Reeza Hendricks the right fit?

Barring SA20, the South African top-order batter is not a regular in franchise cricket. That can be explained by his numbers in the shortest format, where he averages 28.7 at a strike rate of 129.

Hendricks earlier went unsold during the PSL 11 auction, where he registered at a base price of PKR 42 million.

Charles is the latest among many foreign players who have pulled out of the league, citing personal reasons, reportedly linked to the regional political situation.

Karachi will begin their PSL 11 campaign against Quetta Gladiators on March 27 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
