Rashid Khan Becomes First Bowler to Take 650 T20 Wickets

Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan made history by becoming the first bowler to take 650 wickets in T20 cricket. He achieved this milestone during the opening match of The Hundred 2025. Rashid achieved the feat in the one-sided clash between London Spirit and Oval Invincibles at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground in London on Tuesday, August 5.
Kane Williamson-led London Spirit won the toss and opted to bat first. Jordan Clark and Jason Behrendorff made early inroads with the new ball and had the batting side at 26/3 before Rashid began to weave his magic.
The 26-year-old got things going by getting rid of Wayne Madsen with the 43rd ball of the innings. But the big moment came when he trapped Liam Dawson right in front of the stumps for an LBW, which helped him set the record. He later dismissed Ryan Higgins too, ending with brilliant figures of 3 wickets for just 11 runs in 20 balls. Impressively, 15 of those were dot balls.
Rashid Khan Tops T20 Wickets Chart with 651 Dismissals
Afghanistan’s star leg-spinner Rashid Khan has become the first cricketer to take 651 wickets in T20s. He has reached this milestone in 478 innings, with an impressive bowling average of 18.54.
Rashid also has four five-wicket hauls to his name. He strikes every 16.9 balls and keeps things tight with a brilliant economy rate of 6.57 in the shortest format. Rashid's heroics got good support from Sam Curran, who took three wickets as well. London Spirit were bowled out for 80 in 94 balls, with Ashton Turner top-scoring with a 14-ball 21.
In reply, Will Jacks and Tawanda Muyeye gave the Invincibles a steady start, putting up 34 runs in 32 balls. But both openers were sent back by Dawson after getting decent starts. Sam Curran added a quick 14 from just 9 balls. After that, captain Sam Billings and Donovan Ferreira finished the job comfortably, helping their team win with six wickets in hand and 31 balls left.
London Spirit will return to action on Saturday, August 9, as they take on Welsh Fire in Cardiff. On the other hand, Oval Invincibles will play on the same day against Manchester Originals.
