Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants in Advanced Talks for Shardul Thakur and Arjun Tendulkar Swap: Reports
While the big news is about Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals possibly trading Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran for Sanju Samson, another player move is quietly happening. Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians are in talks about a possible swap involving Shardul Thakur and Arjun Tendulkar.
There might be another way to look at the situation, the two players may not be part of a direct trade but separate deals. Sources suggest that both Shardul Thakur and Arjun Tendulkar are likely to join new teams, with each move being handled as an individual, all-cash transfer.
Trade Discussions Underway Between Mumbai and Lucknow Teams
According to IPL trade rules, only the BCCI can officially announce any player exchange. However, sources in Mumbai cricket circles have told Cricbuzz that this swap could happen. The official announcement might come in the next few days, along with the list of retained and released players on November 15.
Shardul Thakur, who is currently leading the Mumbai team, was signed by Lucknow Super Giants for his base price of ₹2 crore before the last IPL season after going unsold in the mega auction in Jeddah. He played 10 matches for LSG, scoring only 18 runs but taking 13 wickets. Mostly used with the new ball, Thakur often opened the bowling and proved to be effective in the early overs.
Arjun Tendulkar has been with Mumbai Indians for a few seasons, picked at his base price of ₹20 lakh each time. The 26-year-old all-rounder didn’t play last season but has appeared in five IPL matches overall, scoring 13 runs and taking three wickets. It’s unclear which team started the current talks, but both franchises are discussing the move. A few years ago, Arjun moved from Mumbai to Goa for domestic cricket, and though he has done well there, finding a place in Mumbai’s strong IPL and domestic line-up has always been tough.
