James Vince Slams ECB's NOC Policy: Calls Out Favoritism Towards IPL Over PSL
The star batter from England, James Vince has openly criticized the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for its controversial No-Objection Certificate (NOC) policy. James Vince believes that the policy is unfair. According to Vince, this new policy was introduced in November and this only policy shows favoritism toward certain leagues.
This new policy from the ECB stops players from joining overseas leagues that overlap with England's domestic season, such as the Pakistan Super League (PSL). But this policy makes an exception for the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Karachi Kings has retained James Vince for the PSL 2025. Also, James questions the ECB board about why the ECB allows players to play in the IPL, even though it clashes with the County Championship, but the ECB board denies them the chance to play in the PSL during the same period.
Vince said: “PSL is a shorter competition, so if you're going to play in that, you're probably missing less domestic cricket than if you're going to the IPL. So, that was a big one where it just didn’t seem right."
Vince was retired from red-ball cricket and now focusing on the while ball formats and highlighting the ECB's 'double standards.' James Vince pointed out how the NOC system allows participation in the IPL but does not allow the players to play in PSL, calling it a clear sign of favoritism toward the IPL.
“I guess it’s got to be something to do with relationships between the ECB, PCB, and BCCI.” James added
In the new policy decision, Vince said that politics might be involved. The ECB's relationship with the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) and Pakistan Cricket Board were treated differently.
James concluded: "You're talking quite large sums of money in terms of what players forego by playing red-ball cricket. Particularly further down their careers, when there's a big difference in those numbers, I'm sure more and more people will go down that route."
James Vince has an impressive PSL career, he has scored 1,166 runs in just 45 matches with an amazing strike rate of 136.69. he has hit four half-centuries with his highest score being 84.
