Ashes 2025-26: Steve Smith to Lead Unchanged Australia Squad for 2nd Test

Cricket Australia has announced the squad for the second Test of the Ashes 2025-26. Australia will face England in the match starting on December 4 at the Gabba in Brisbane. Ahead of the clash, the board named an unchanged squad for the second Test. Steve Smith will continue to captain the side in the second Test, as Pat Cummins’ return from injury has been put on ice.
It’s important to mention that Cummins did not play the first Test because he was recovering from a stress injury in his lower back. He has been given two more weeks to get back to full fitness. The captain is now in the last phase of his recovery and will travel with the team to Brisbane.

Usman Khawaja has also been included in the squad even though he recently had back spasms, which stopped him from batting in the second innings of the Perth Test. Meanwhile, Cummins was seen training well at the SCG. He even bowled to Steve Smith for more than an hour with the pink ball.
However, Australia still chose not to take a chance with their key player and decided to rest him for the second Test. With his return very close, Cummins will be expected to feature for Australia in the third Test of the series. However, with a comfortable win in the first game of the series. Australia will hope for a similar showing in the second game of the series in Brisbane as well.
