Zaman Khan joins Heat as Shaheen begins rehab at NCA
Pakistan pacer Zaman Khan has been signed by Brisbane Heat for the remainder of the Big Bash League (BBL) season. The young fast bowler comes in as a replacement for Shaheen Shah Afridi, who injured his right knee during a Heat game last week. Shaheen has since returned to Pakistan and reportedly begun his rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Zaman to play against Thunder
Zaman was part of BBL 13, where he represented the Sydney Thunder. He took eight wickets in four games for the Thunder, the same team he will begin his season against on Saturday at the Gabba.
“Welcome to the Heat, Zaman Khan. The Pakistani fast bowler has signed on as an International Replacement Player for the remainder of BBL15,” Brisbane Heat announced the signing through their social media.
Brisbane Heat head coach Johan Botha said that Zaman’s heroics in the format, especially in league cricket, have ‘evolved’ over the years, which makes him a valuable addition to the Heat squad.
“He’s a genuine wicket-taker up front, but he can also control an over with his variations and pace,” Botha said.
“He complements our attack nicely and gives us additional options in the key bowling periods. Zaman was a handful when he first came on the scene and has continued to evolve his game.”
Shaheen’s rehab at NCA
Meanwhile, Shaheen’s rehabilitation at the NCA is aimed at ensuring the pacer regains fitness ahead of the World Cup, which begins next month. The left-armer has a history of injuries in his right knee, which makes his recent setback particularly concerning for Pakistan.
