Delhi Capitals have named India women’s team batter Jemimah Rodrigues as their new captain for WPL 2026. She replaces Meg Lanning, who was released earlier this year before the mega auction.

Jemimah was Delhi Capitals’ top retention at ₹2.2 crore and will now lead the team as they aim to win their first WPL title. Jemimah has been a part of DC since the inception of the WPL 3 years ago.

Her appointment as captain comes a few months after her brilliant performance in the Women’s World Cup 2025, which helped India move closer to winning the trophy. A very happy Rodrigues said it was a dream come true for her and her family to lead India to a World Cup win and to be named Delhi Capitals captain for the WPL 2026.

“It is an absolute honour to be named captain of the Delhi Capitals, and I am deeply grateful to the owners and the support staff for placing their faith in me to lead this team. It has truly been a dream year for me and my family, winning the World Cup and now being entrusted with this wonderful opportunity at a franchise that has held a very special place in my heart since the very first season of the WPL,” Jemimah said.

Rodrigues has played 27 WPL matches. She has scored 507 runs at a strong strike rate of 139.67 and has played in all three finals of the league so far.
