WPL 2025 Points Table: Updated Standings After DC Women vs GG Warriorz MatchCaptain Meg Lanning’s impressive 92 was not enough as Gujarat Giants defeated top-ranked Delhi Capitals by five wickets to secure their third consecutive win and qualify for the Eliminator of the Women’s Premier League on Friday. Already qualified for the playoffs, Delhi Capitals relied on Lanning’s 57-ball 92, which included 15 fours and a six, to set a challenging total of 177 for five.

But the total was not enough as Gujarat built their chase around Harleen Deol’s unbeaten 70 off 49 balls and Beth Mooney’s quick 44 off 35 balls. Towards the end, captain Ashleigh Gardner (22 off 13) and Deandra Dottin (24 off 10) guided Gujarat Giants past the target in the final over. The Gujarat team lost opener Dayalan Hemalatha in the second over, caught by Lanning at extra cover off Shikha Pandey’s bowling, before wicketkeeper Mooney (44) and Deol put together an 84-run partnership for the second wicket.

Mooney and Deol played calmly, collecting 15 runs in the ninth over bowled by Annabel Sutherland, including three well-timed boundaries. The pair built an 84-run stand for the second wicket before off-spinner Minnu Mani ended the partnership by dismissing Mooney. Mani tossed the ball up on middle and off, tempting Mooney to step out and go over the bowler’s head, but she ended up slicing it to Sutherland. Captain Gardner then chipped in with 22 off 13, while Deol remained at the crease, keeping Gujarat Giants in the chase.

The match took a dramatic turn in the 18th over when Deandra Dottin hammered Jess Jonassen for two fours and a six. However, Jonassen had the last laugh, dismissing Dottin and Phoebe Litchfield off consecutive deliveries, with the second wicket falling on the final ball of the over. With Gujarat needing 16 runs from the last two overs, Kashvee Gautam struck a crucial six off Shikha Pandey’s final delivery, reducing the equation to just seven runs in the last over.

Earlier, after being sent in to bat, Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma (40 off 27, 3 fours, 3 sixes) gave Delhi Capitals a flying start, adding 83 runs in just nine overs. Shafali was dismissed while attempting another big shot, caught by Litchfield at the boundary off Meghna Singh’s bowling. Despite quick wickets falling, Lanning carried on aggressively, even as DC lost Jess Jonassen and Jemimah Rodrigues in quick succession. Annabel Sutherland (14 off 8, 2 fours) provided brief support before also falling while going for a big hit. Lanning’s brilliant knock ended just short of a century when she was bowled by Dottin on the second-last ball of the innings.

Lanning attempted a big swing at a slower, back-of-length delivery but completely missed the line, resulting in her stumps being knocked over. Her dismissal ended Delhi’s innings just short of a dominant finish. Meghna Singh (3/35) was the top bowler for Gujarat, with Deandra Dottin also impressing with two wickets for 37 runs.
