Top 5 Teams with the Best Squad Depth for IPL 2025

by Prakash Reddy V

On November 24 and 25, the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah ended up selling 228 players. some big stars were unsold in the mega auction, the major names such as David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Steven Smith, Kane Williamson, Shardul Thakur, and Prithvi Shaw, despite having strong histories in earlier IPL seasons. It was surprising, especially since some of these players led their teams in previous IPL seasons, making their absence from the auction even more unexpected.

Lucknow Super Giants caught everyone's attention by spending a lot on getting the star Indian keeper-batter Rishabh Pant, Punjab Kings entered with the highest budget in the IPL mega auction and wisely built a strong team that has the potential to succeed and compete for the championship in IPL 2025. Royal Challengers Bengaluru turned heads by deciding against using their Right to Match (RTM) cards for important players such as Will Jacks and Mohammed Siraj.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders aimed at getting back those players who had helped them succeed earlier, and Mumbai Indians kept it simple by retaining five of their best players.

1. Sunrisers Hyderabad-10/10

The IPL team of Sunrisers Hyderabad looks extremely solid currently. They made sure to keep some crucial players around - Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Nitish Reddy are still on the team. To add to their strong lineup, they spent a lot of money on new players to strengthen their team. Ishan Kishan was bought for a hefty ₹11.25 crore, and they didn't stop there.

Mohammed Shami came in at ₹10 crore, Harshal Patel for ₹8 crore, Rahul Chahar at ₹3.2 crore, and Adam Zampa for ₹2.4 crore. With these additions, it's pretty clear the Sunrisers are setting big goals. They've put together a mix of everything needed to succeed, especially since they've been to the top before, taking the championship in 2016.

The team made some marvelous moves in bowling with Cummins leading. They got Cummins, Shami, Harshal, Chahar, Jaydev Unadkat, and Simarjeet Singh to change things. When it comes to hitting the ball, Atharva Taide joined the squad. In addition, Abhinav Manohar might come into play or they could bring him out as an Impact Player.

Hyderabad reached the IPL 2024 final, and now, Sunrisers Hyderabad is aiming to win their second trophy because they made it to the IPL 2024 final. They truly wish that nobody gets injured since they have chosen their main team and extra players. They want to make sure everything goes as planned.

2. Mumbai Indians -9.5/10

The Mumbai Indians really thought things through when they kept Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma, and Tilak Varma even before the mega auction happened. They stuck with these five key players, which was very smart, especially with all the excitement about Rohit handing over the captain's duties to Hardik. By retaining a strong base with these men, who are already champions five times over, they got even stronger. By adding Trent Boult, Naman Dhir, Deepak Chahar, and Allah Ghazanfar to their team.

The team is a bit worried about wicketkeeping. It's possible that Ryan Rickelton will open with Rohit Sharma but the problem is Ryan Rickelton hasn't played in the IPL much. In case Ryan can't handle it, they may potentially have Suryakumar Yadav start first and add Robin Minz to the group, but just like Ryan, Robin doesn't have much experience in IPL, so that might make things tough for the team.

3. Punjab Kings -9/10

The Punjab Kings picked some top-notch players, with names including Shreyas Iyer, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen, and Yuzvendra Chahal. They even retained Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar back on the team. The team they've put together is one of the best they've ever made, they still must sort out finding a first-rate Indian wicketkeeper, which is a major issue.

The Punjab Kings seem very prepared for a strong push for the title. They've picked Prabhsimran Singh and Josh Inglis, probably beginning as openers, while major names like Shreyas Iyer, Maxwell, Nehal Wadhera, and Stoinis strengthen, drastically, the middle order. Shashank Singh, taking the spot at number seven, makes sure their batting lineup is very strong.

On the bowling side, it's even more impressive. They have Jansen to bring some depth, along with a reliable attack team made up of Arshdeep Singh, Brar, and Chahal. Overall, the team's obtained a great balance and looks ready to move forward for the win.

4. Delhi Capitals -8.5/10

The Delhi Capitals smartly brought back Jake Fraser-McGurk using the RTM card and made an important move by signing KL Rahul for just ₹14 crores for the new season. They've built a solid lineup now. The plan is for Jake and Rahul to open the innings at the top of the order, then Harry Brook comes in at three, Tristan Stubbs bats next at four, followed by Abishek Porel at five. Faf Du Plessis and Sameer Rizvi are ready to step in, making sure the team's batting is strong and can adapt to conditions easily.

Mukesh Kumar or Mohit Sharma will likely join the team to make their bowlers extremely strong this season. Meanwhile, Ashutosh Sharma, who was amazing playing for Punjab Kings last season, is set to be the finisher with Axar Patel. Alternatively, their batting in the middle doesn't have much practice, so do not be surprised if Faf du Plessis comes in for Harry Brook, which would move Rahul to the third spot.

When it comes to bowling, Mitchell Starc and T Natarajan are a fierce speed pair, and Kuldeep Yadav is taking charge of spinning the ball.

5. Lucknow Super Giants - 8/10

The Lucknow Super Giants excelled by choosing some great hitters. People such as Rishabh Pant, David Miller, Mitchell Marsh, and Aiden Markram, along with Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni, have made their batting lineup extremely strong, but they concentrated so much on batters, that their bowling unit didn't receive enough focus, which basically left them weak there.

Lucknow did a great job getting key players on board by picking Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, and Mohsin Khan. And they didn't stop there they also obtained Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, and Shahbaz Ahmed. But, they didn't manage to get a first-rate foreign fast bowler, which would have made their team even stronger. While they've put together a group that could possibly win the championship, it's all going to come down to how well their bowlers perform when it really counts.
