SRH Slam Controversial Umpiring in IPL 2026 After Avesh Khan Boundary Incident

[ Poll: Ry0lAzy2 ]

The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) haven’t played well so far. Their bowling looks weak, and their batting hasn’t done well either. They have won one match and lost two. But SRH feels their poor performance is not completely their fault. In each of their three matches, there have been contentious decisions. All went against them.

In the recent match, Avesh Khan hit the ball back into the ground while standing outside the boundary. On the second-last ball against Lucknow Super Giants on April 5, Rishabh Pant played the winning shot, but the ball did not actually cross the boundary. Avesh smashed it back with his bat.

The incident lit a debate online, with some claiming that SRH should’ve been awarded 5 penalty runs since Avesh was guilty of violating Law 20.1 (Dead Ball) and Law 41 (Unfair Play).

SRH Frustrated Over Controversial Umpiring Decisions in IPL 2026

However, the rules could not be used because Rishabh Pant had already hit the ball past the fielder, and Avesh Khan was not trying to stop a fielder from reaching it. Still, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are likely to complain to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about the incident. And this is not the only issue they have raised.

According to Cricbuzz, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are unhappy with two controversial catches that went against them. In the Indian Premier League 2026 opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Heinrich Klaasen was given out even though there were signs that Phil Salt may have touched the boundary line.

However, the umpire ignored it and gave the decision out. This call divided opinions, with many experts surprised by the final decision. In their second match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Varun Chakravarthy had seemingly grassed the ball at deep square leg.

But Abhishek Sharma was adjudged out. The batter left the crease while cursing and was subsequently fined. In both cases, the batters were set. Klaasen was batting on 31 while Abhishek was on 48. One doesn’t know whether the RCB match could’ve turned in their favour if Salt’s catch was adjudged as a six instead of a catch. SRH knows the results can’t be changed. But they aren’t pleased and want to take this issue up with BCCI.
