South Africa Announces Test Squad for Pakistan Series With New All-Rounder Inclusion

by Madhan Vennapusa

South Africa has announced their squad for the crucial two-match Test series against Pakistan, which will be a series of great importance in determining their chances of qualification for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final at Lord's next year. South Africa is at the top of the WTC standings, and head coach Shukri Conrad says that the team is keen to remain at the top and book a place in the final. India will also have keen interest, as they hope to make it to the WTC final for the third time in succession. The first-ever WTC final appearance for South Africa will be confirmed if the team wins the series.

Uncapped Players Bosch and Maphaka Join South Africa's Test Squad

The team is well balanced with more experience and newer talent, so one of the uncapped players is Corbin Bosch, and this player has an incredible batting average of over 40 and a bowling average at 36.75; the other interesting player, who took the most wickets in the Men's U19 World Cup this year, is Kwena Maphaka, and he even played his T20I for South Africa this year itself.

Wiaan Mulder, who recovered from a finger injury, is back in the squad. Should he be selected for the first Test, batter Matthew Breetzke will have to make way. Spinner Keshav Maharaj, who is undergoing assessment for a groin injury, has also been added to the squad.

South Africa faces a tough test against Pakistan, who have been traditionally strong on pace bowling. Conrad admitted the threat when he said, "They always pose a strong challenge with their fast bowlers, and I expect it to be no different this time.

“This series is critical for us. We head into it with a clear focus, with a spot in the World Test Championship Final being the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. We’ve selected a squad that gives us the best chance to achieve that," Conrad said.

The first Test will be from December 26-30 in Centurion, with the second Test from January 3-7 in Cape Town. This series is really exciting as they eye the WTC final appearance.
