Sixers outdo Heat in low-scoring affair despite Babar’s no-show
Sydney Sixers are back in the top four sanctuary as they beat Brisbane Heat by 3 wickets in a low-scoring game. Although star batter Babar Azam, who top-scored in the last game, couldn’t get going, a late-innings partnership saved the day for the Sixers. With this win, their playoff hopes get the much-needed impetus as the tournament draws to the closing end of the tournament.
Davies is as good as it gets
Joel Davies was as good as one can get in a run-scarce game on a surface that batters don’t fancy batting on. Along with Ben Dwarshuis and Sean Abbott, Davies grabbed a couple of scalps to further stifle any run-scoring chances that the Brisbane Heat HAD.
At the innings break, Heat had only managed to score 114 runs, lower than par even for a surface that Coffs Harbour dished out.
However, the chase wasn’t exactly a walk in the park. Sydney lost three wickets inside the powerplay, including Babar’s. Oli Patterson bagged back-to-back scalps in his second over, getting rid of both the Pakistan batter and Josh Philippe.
While Moises Henriques’ innings looked to be God-sent as two more batters fell, it was nothing compared to the firepower that Davies and Hayden Kerr brought.
Davies-Kerr partnership
Both batters partnered to score 62 off 49 balls, bringing Sydney back into contention. With eight balls and three wickets to spare, the Sixers were safely home, thanks in large part to Joel Davies, the man of the match.
Both the Sixers and Heat have six points each, but the former’s Net Run Rate puts them in fourth spot in the table.
