by K D Mishra

The India vs South Africa Test series is currently happening, and after that, the ODIs and T20Is will start from November 30. The squads for these white-ball matches have not been announced yet. According to a report in the Times of India, the selectors will decide the teams on the second day of the Guwahati Test on Sunday

The report says that chief selector Ajit Agarkar, RP Singh, and Devajit Saikia will meet in Guwahati to discuss the squads. Some senior players may not be available. Hardik Pandya might still be unfit, along with Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill.

Pandya has been out since the Asia Cup, Iyer got injured in Australia, and Gill suffered a neck injury in Kolkata. This is a big blow for India. Shubman Gill will definitely miss the three ODIs against South Africa. The BCCI medical team, led by Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, has advised him to take more rest, but he should be fit in time for the T20Is.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would definitely be available for the ODIs. In the absence of Shubman, KL Rahul may be a potential skipper, or Rohit might return as skipper for this one series. Rishabh Pant might come in as the second keeper, with Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj as the main pacers. Due to Jasprit Bumrah’s workload management, he might not be in the ODI team.

The T20I team may look similar to the one from the Australia series. Suryakumar Yadav is expected to lead. Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma could be the two keepers. If Shubman Gill is still unfit, someone like Yashasvi Jaiswal may get a chance, but his place is not guaranteed. Sanju Samson could open the batting again.
