Shubman Gill injured, ruled out of IND vs SA 4th T20I; Ahmedabad participation uncertain
Shubman Gill has been ruled out for the 4th T20I between India and the South Africa team. Although the vice-captain recently got back to playing action after injuring his neck in mid-October, the injury just isn't letting him go. While preparing for the penultimate match in the series, Gill has suffered a foot injury in the nets on December 16. He had been struck by the ball on his toe while practicing at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on the eve of the T20 International match in Lucknow.
The BCCI medical team has been closely watching Gill, and currently, there are question marks over his availability for the final match in Ahmedabad. Also, the cold weather conditions in the northern part of the country mean that the healing time will be longer. This might result in Gill being forced out of the team. BCCI may just decide to sit him out.
“Yes, there is a toe injury when he was batting. It doesn’t look serious now, but only an examination will give us a better idea about it. We have to keep an eye on the weather in the northern part of the country as well because of which recoveries take time,” said time of India Reporter.

It seems that India is set to lose Axar Patel, who is already out due to injury, and Gill might be the new addition to the list. On the positive side, Bumrah is back in the team after taking a personal leave for the T20 international match in Dharamshala.
However, Bumrah might also be missing action due to fog. In the absence of Gill, the one who might get back into the team is Sanju Samson. After being demoted to the middle order, Samson was left out of the playing eleven going to Australia. He has not played any matches against South Africa till now, and he might also get a chance to open the innings with Abhishek Sharma if Gill is not fully recovered from his injury.
