Shubman Gill Becomes World No.1 ODI Batter, Surpasses Babar Azam
Shubman Gill has officially become the world's No.1 ODI batter, surpassing Pakistan’s Babar Azam in the latest ICC rankings. In the three-match series, he scored 259 runs with one century and two half-centuries at an average of 86.33.
Ahead of the Champions Trophy, this is the best time to be at the top of the rankings.
The India batter had closed in on Babar Azam last week and was just 5 points away from the former Pakistan captain.
India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, recently praised Shubman’s consistency, attributing it in part to his elevation as the team’s vice-captain. His ability to deliver under pressure has made him one of India's most dependable batters in the 50-over format, and with the Champions Trophy around the corner, the team will be banking on him to lead from the front.
