Shreyas Iyer Injury Update: Fitness Check at BCCI CoE, NZ ODIs & Vijay Hazare Comeback
The vice-captain of India’s ODI team, Shreyas Iyer, made a promising start to come back to cricket before the series against New Zealand. It was Shreyas Iyer’s first actual batting session at Mumbai on December 24 after he had a career-ending injury during their tour of Australia.

As per the reports of the Times of India, Shreyas Iyer has been batting for almost an hour without facing any discomfort or pain in the shoulder, which is really a relief for the player as well as the Indian team authorities.
After this inspiring session, the right-handed batsman is all set to move to the BCCI Centre of Excellence at Bengaluru to further resume his recovery process for his long-awaited return to ODIs. Back at present, there isn’t a concrete date yet for the return of the Mumbaikar in the world of competitive cricket. However, the 31-year-old player is eagerly waiting to return as soon as possible, whereas the experienced batsman is trying to make a return through the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26.

Shreyas Iyer’s injury was checked by the BCCI after conducting thorough check-ups at the BCCI centre of excellence in Bengaluru. After that, BCCI will make a decision on Shreyas Iyer later. The Indian vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, will attend the Bengaluru centre for the next four to six days for a fitness checkup and training sessions. After that, he will be available for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26.
After that, the BCCI excellence will check on the medical Reports, and the support staff will carefully monitoring his fitness levels and work rate to provide a better insight into his return to Cricket.
However, Shreyas Iyer has not played a single match since October 2025. The series where Iyer last played was the three-game ODI series between India and Australia, during which Iyer injured his abdomen. This injury was the main reason to miss the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 and the ODI series between India and South Africa.
