Cheteshwar Pujara and Rohit Sharma first played together for India during the 2006 Under-19 World Cup. Since then, they’ve been close friends and teammates. Their bond is strong and natural, and the way they connect is easygoing and real.

Rohit Sharma’s Funny Slip About Pujara Sparks Laughter

Last year, just after Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket, Rohit Sharma made a small slip of the tongue during a press conference on India’s tour of Australia in December, and it left everyone laughing.

“Pujara is hiding somewhere in Rajkot, so we don’t meet so often. Let me clarify, Pujara has not retired. You will get me killed,” Rohit said.

Rohit Sharma Recalls a Funny Incident at Pujara's Book Launch

At the recent launch of The Diary of a Cricketer’s Wife, written by Cheteshwar Pujara’s wife, Puja, Rohit Sharma, who was there for the event, shared a light-hearted moment. While speaking at the launch, the India ODI captain playfully reminded Pujara about a funny incident from the past, one that, he joked, might have been missed in the book.

Pujara Shares Story of Getting Mugged in the West Indies

Rohit remembered the 2012 tour of the West Indies, when he had warned Pujara about something, but Pujara didn’t listen, and later, he ended up regretting it.

“I am sure it is not written in the book. Is there anything regarding that West Indies tour of India A 2012? What happened?” Rohit asked Pujara. That was when Pujara opened up on the incident. “I haven’t told. I mean, she is aware but she doesn’t know the details. I am a vegetarian. So we were looking for a vegetarian meal at night. It was in TNT (Trinidad and Tobago) where we went out at 11 in the evening. We didn’t find the meal but when we were walking back, I was mugged. I can’t tell you in detail about it but that’s the story he is referring to.”

Rohit added, “Moral of the story is that he can be stubborn,” he said. “We told him. We warned him not to go out in the night. Don't step out after 9 PM. This is the West Indies.”

Pujara has scored 7,195 runs at 43.60 with 19 tons and 35 fifties from 103 Tests for India. While not retired, his last Test appearance came in June 2023.`
