by K D Mishra

Rishabh Pant has injured himself before the India vs New Zealand 1st ODI match. The wicket-keeper batter joined the Indian squad last night in Vadodara, as he played for the Delhi side in the last match of the group stages in the 2025-26 season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Rishabh Pant Injury Scare Clouds India’s Preparations Ahead of IND vs NZ 1st ODI

In a move designed to prepare for the match, Pant decided to undergo practices instead of resting. He came to the BCA Stadium’s Ground B with the whole team. As RevSportz reports, everything was going quite well, but then came the blow when Pant was struck above his waist during throw-downs.

The keeper winced in pain as he was injured and was attended to by the medical personnel. The rest of the support staff and other players looked on as Pant was being treated. Pant was not ready to proceed. He left the practice session earlier, accompanied by two members of the medical staff.

Soon after, the ODI captain of India, Shubman Gill, could be noticed having a long discussion with the chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar. It can well be surmised that R Pant could have been the point of discussion between them. Along with Pant and Gill, the other players who were there in the practice session include Shreyas Iyer, Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja. In fact, Rohit even shared a few batting tips with Mohammed Siraj. He stood outside the net to guide the pacer.
