Pakistan docked points for slow over rate during the Mirpur Test
Pakistan have been deducted eight points for a slow over rate during the Mirpur Test, adding to their already crushing loss in the series opener. Additionally, the players have been fined part of their match fee for the same reason. The penalty was imposed by match referee Jeff Crowe. Crowe mentioned that the visitors were eight overs short of the target, taking the allowed time delays into account.
Points docked, players fined
Pakistan were fined 5% of their match fee for each over delayed beyond the allotted time. This works out to 40% of the match fees, as per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
In addition to that, in line with Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship playing conditions, teams are docked one point for each over delayed. The deduction leaves Pakistan with only four WTC points, the joint-lowest among all teams.
Pakistan captain Shan Masood admitted the offence and accepted the penalty, negating the need for a formal hearing. The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Kumar Dharmasena, third umpire Allahuddien Palekar, and fourth umpire Gazi Sohel.
Can Pakistan bounce back in Sylhet Test?
Pakistan are now in seventh place on the WTC points table after losing two of their three games so far, one each against South Africa and Bangladesh. They will face Bangladesh in the second and final Test of the series on May 16 in Sylhet.
