Pakistan crash out of Women's T20 World Cup after third straight defeat

Pakistan's batting woes once again snatched the game from their hands, with consequences more dire than ever this time. Chasing a meagre total set by Bangladesh in Southampton, Pakistan's batting did the only thing it has been consistent in this World Cup: collapse.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Bangladesh soon found themselves in a mess. They were reeling at 23 for 3 by the end of the powerplay, thanks to Fatima Sana's double-wicket maiden that helped her get rid of Dilara Akter and Sharmin Akhter. Nothing of note unfolded for Bangladesh as Pakistan bowlers kept things tight. 

It took Bangladesh eleven overs to reach 50 runs. However, the next 50 came fairly quickly as the late middle order decided to accelerate the run rate. Shorna Akter struck a 22-ball 39 to make the most of what was left and give Pakistan a respectable target to chase.

Pakistan make a mess of what should have been a piece of cake

Nevertheless, it was a low total, which should never have troubled Pakistan, especially with the momentum the bowlers gave them. But the side was able to make a mess of even a 123-run total. Losing their first wicket for 49 runs in the eighth over, only a horribly spectacular collapse could have snatched the win from them. And that's exactly what Pakistan staged. 

They lost seven more wickets for just 35 runs, with captain Fatima Sana the last batter to return. Nashra Sandhu and Tasmia Rubab tried to do a job that was too big for them and, as expected, failed. Pakistan ran out of balls at the 100-run mark, giving Bangladesh a 24-run win.

With this defeat, which is their third straight, Pakistan have been eliminated, while third-placed Bangladesh have their semi-final chances still alive.
