Islamabad United get Devon Conway for PKR 63 million ahead of the auction

by mishaalmubarak

Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Islamabad United have signed Devon Conway for the upcoming season. Conway, who will be making his PSL debut with United, has been signed for PKR 63 million. This makes him Islamabad’s second-highest-paid pre-auction player, behind their Platinum retention Shadab Khan, who will earn PKR 70 million.

PSL allow direct signings

Earlier, the PCB had allowed each team to directly sign one foreign player not part of PSL X, even allowing the purse to stretch from PKR 450 million to PKR 505 million to accommodate such inductions.

United confirmed the announcement through an Instagram post, welcoming the top-order batter to the league.

"The 4th fastest man to reach 1,000 runs in T20I cricket joins Islamabad United. Devon Conway it is. The Kiwi star is ready to light up the HBL PSL 11 as our direct signing," the post read.

Islamabad use PKR 159 million

Unlike most other franchises, United retained only three players, including Shadab Khan, Salman Irshad, and Andries Gous. Including Conway’s signing, the franchise has spent PKR 159 million of its purse ahead of the auction.

In addition to Conway, players including Steve Smith (Sialkot Stallionz), Moeen Ali (Karachi Kings), and Mustafizur Rehman (Lahore Qalandars) are among the other directly signed players. The remaining franchises are also expected to name their direct signings before the player auction on February 11.
