A great partnership between impact player Sameer Rizvi, who scored 70 not out from 47 balls, and Tristan Stubbs, who made 39 not out from 32 balls, helped Delhi Capitals win their first match. The bowlers did really well earlier, and Delhi beat Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets with 17 balls to spare.

DC skipper Axar Patel called it right at the toss and elected to bowl first. Brilliant spells from T Natarajan (3/29), Lungi Ngidi (3/27), Axar Patel (1/17) and Mukesh Kumar (0/17) helped restrict Lucknow Super Giants to just 141 in 18.4 overs. Abdul Samad top scored with 36 off 25 balls with opener Mitchell Marsh scoring 35 in 28 balls as wickets continued falling around him.

Rizvi and Stubbs Lead Delhi Capitals to First Win Against Lucknow

The Capitals failed to get a good start losing KL Rahul first ball to Mohammed Shami. Fellow opener Pathum Nissanka could score just 1 off 5 balls before Prince Yadav had him caught in the leg side with Rishabh Pant claiming a good catch.

Nitish Rana played a few good strokes including a maximum against Shami but it was Mohsin Khan who had him caught in the slips for 15. Rizvi arrived at number 4 replacing Natarajan in the lineup as impact player and build a strong partnership with Stubbs after skipper Axar Patel perished for a golden duck to Prince Yadav.

The local boy Rizvi attacked the ball left, right and center smashing 5 fours and 4 sixes in his unbeaten 70 off 47 balls. Stubbs batted around the youngster with 39 off 32 to his name with 3 fours and a maximum. The duo added 119 runs for the 5th wicket and stayed at the crease until the winning run was scored.

Shami bowled a tidy spell with 1/28. Mohsin Khan delivered a wicket maiden in his 4-over spell and finished with 1/19. Prince Yadav picked up 2/20 in 3 overs but the rest of the bowlers couldn't quite replicate what the LSG bowlers achieved in the powerplay restricting DC to 33/4.
