IPL 2026: Ben Duckett Leaves Delhi Capitals, Two England Players Reject Replacement Offers
The link between England players and the Indian Premier League is not very strong at the moment. Although Australian injured players like Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood have again opted to join their respective teams, the same is not happening with the England cricketers.
After Ben Duckett Pull-Out, England Players Continue to Skip IPL 2026 Opportunities
Last year, Harry Brook chose not to join the IPL despite being selected by the Delhi Capitals. His decision was to concentrate on playing for England, and soon he was made the captain of the white-ball format. But this decision proved to be a problem for the team.
Because of this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India introduced a rule, which states that a player will be banned if he does not turn up without any valid reasons. Now, the same thing is happening again. Ben Duckett has again not opted to join the IPL 2026, and again the Delhi Capitals are being affected.
Many England players are not too interested in the IPL. One of the main reasons for this is money. England and Wales Cricket Board pays them well, so they do not need to play in the IPL. Another reason is that they might not get a chance to play and might have to sit on the bench.
Comfort and safety levels might also be a concern for the players as they have to stay in another country for a long time. Josh Tongue and Jamie Smith were offered to play in the IPL 2026 as a replacement player, but they also said no. In simple words, the England players have preferred to play for their country rather than the IPL.
