IPL 2026 Auction: 5 Players Certain to Be Released – Multiple KKR Stars on the List

The 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) gave fans plenty of thrilling matches between the 10 teams. Now, with the IPL 2026 auction coming up, the stage is set for even more exciting T20 cricket.
In the last season, some players carried on their good form, while others struggled but managed to bounce back at the right time. However, a few players couldn’t perform as expected, which makes it almost certain that their teams will release them before the IPL 2026 player auction.
IPL 2026 Auction: 5 Players Certain to Be Released
Mohammed Shami (SRH)
Mohammed Shami had an impressive two years with the Gujarat Titans (GT), taking 48 wickets in total. But he missed the entire IPL 2024 because of an ankle injury. Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, GT decided to release the experienced pacer.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) picked him up for a big price of ₹10 crore. However, after returning from injury, Shami couldn’t find his old rhythm. He managed only six wickets in nine matches and had an expensive economy rate of 11.23. Eventually, he was dropped from the playing XI, and his disappointing IPL 2025 season has now led to his release from the SRH squad before the IPL 2026 auction.

Ajinkya Rahane (KKR)
Ajinkya Rahane became the captain of KKR in IPL 2025 after Shreyas Iyer left. He started well with a score of 56, but his batting and captaincy didn’t impress overall. KKR finished eighth in the tournament.
Now, with the possibility of KKR trading for KL Rahul, who brings a lot of captaincy experience, Rahane’s place in the squad could be in question. With a price tag of ₹1.50 crore, the team might consider releasing him to free up both space and funds for new options.

Rahul Tripathi (CSK)
Rahul Tripathi, who once played for KKR, was bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for ₹3.40 crore. Before that, he spent three seasons with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), where his performance was average. In IPL 2024, he scored 165 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 143.48.
However, his time with CSK didn’t go well. He could score only 55 runs in five matches, with a strike rate of just 96.49. CSK also had a difficult season and will now aim to rebuild a stronger team for the IPL 2026 auction.

Venkatesh Iyer (KKR)
The Madhya Pradesh batter, Venkatesh Iyer, emerged as a brilliant find of KKR during the second half of the IPL 2021 in the UAE (United Arab Emirates). The southpaw notched up 370 runs in 10 matches and established himself as one of the mainstays at KKR. He also played a crucial role in KKR’s third title win in IPL 2024. His consistency over the years propelled the franchise to bring him back in their squad ahead of the latest IPL season.
After engaging in a bidding battle with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the Knight Riders brought back Venkatesh for a huge sum of INR 23.75 crore. But a poor form and also losing his usual position of No.3 saw the 30-year-old score only 142 runs in 11 matches. Moreover, RCB’s continued interest in roping in the batter in the IPL 2026 auction has almost finalised his exit from the KKR camp.

Quinton de Kock (KKR)
Quinton De Kock had an ups and downs in his form in IPL 2025 with KKR. He played a brilliant knock of 97 in one game, but struggled to be consistent overall, managing just 152 runs in 8 innings with an average of 21.71. Since KKR is reportedly interested in KL Rahul who can also keep wickets, letting go of De Kock (who cost Rs 3.6 crore) could open up an important overseas spot and free up a good amount of money.
