Hyderabad Kingsmen name Labuschagne as their captain for PSL 11
Hyderabad Kingsmen have announced Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne as their captain for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season.
Marnus’ T20 numbers
Labuschagne was signed by the franchise ahead of the auction for PKR 58.8 million, making him the second-most expensive player for the franchise after Saim Ayub, who was sold at the auction for PKR 126 million.
Labuschagne becomes the third Australian named as the captain of a PSL franchise this season, with Ashton Turner and David Warner already named to captain Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings. Though unlike the latter two, Marnus Labuschagne does not boast any captaincy experience in any of the formats.
Marnus comes off a dismal BBL season, where he scored 23 runs with a strike rate of 95 in three games for Brisbane Heat. That he has only ever played one T20I game, where he scored 2 off 4 balls for Australia, underlines his reputation as largely a longer-format player.
Australians at the PSL
Overall, he is part of a significant Australian contingent at the PSL this year, with players like Steve Smith, Aaron Hardie, and Adam Zampa, among others.
Marnus will join former Australian bowler Jason Gillespie, who is Hyderabad’s coach for the season, at the franchise. Additionally, his teammates Glenn Maxwell and Riley Meredith are also part of the franchise.
Hyderabad will kick off the PSL season this year with a game against defending champions Lahore Qalandars at the Gaddafi Stadium on March 26.
