Gautam Gambhir Slams Critics as "Perpetual Cribbers" After India's Champions Trophy Final Berth

Gautam Gambhir Slams Critics as India's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, responded strongly to critics after the team made it to the Champions Trophy final. Speaking at the press conference after India's 4-wicket win over Australia at the Dubai International Stadium, Gambhir called some critics "perpetual cribbers" and made it clear that he wasn’t bothered by outside opinions. He emphasized that what mattered most was the belief within the team, not what people were saying from the outside.

Gautam Gambhir responded to critics like Nasser Hussain and Mike Atherton, who debated whether India playing all their matches at one venue in the ICC Champions Trophy gave them an unfair advantage.

India is the only team that has played all its matches in one city, while the other teams have traveled between three cities in Pakistan and Dubai, where India's games are held. The Indian head coach explained that Dubai is a neutral venue for India, just like it is for the other teams.

"It is as much a neutral venue for us as it is for any team in this tournament. I don't remember the last tournament we played here in this stadium. The plan was to pick two front-line spinners wherever we played because the tournament is in the subcontinent. This is the first match where two front-line spinners are playing," Gautam Gambhir said.

"What undue advantage? We are practising at the ICC Academy. The conditions there and at the Dubai International Stadium are completely different. There’s a huge difference between the two wickets. Some people are perpetual cribbers, man. They’ve got to grow up," he said.

Gautam Gambhir lashed out at critics who questioned the team management and selection panel. With India already under pressure after losing series to New Zealand and Australia where they struggled against both spin and pace both Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar faced heavy criticism for their squad choices.

The passionate head coach said that he wasn’t bothered by criticism as long as he stayed honest in his work for his team and the 140 crore people of India.

Gambhir said, "I don't care about it. Honestly. My job is to be honest to 140 crore Indians and to the people in that dressing room. I don’t care what people talk about, how they talk about it, whether they have agendas. I really don’t care about it. If I am honest to my job, that is all that matters."

"When you talk about the spin combinations, there are three all-rounders among those five spinners. People keep forgetting about them. And those three all-rounders are all quality all-rounders. We have picked only two front-line spinners in the entire squad, and that’s okay in a 15-member squad," he added.

India stuck with their four-spinner strategy in the semi-final too. Rohit Sharma’s team bowled out Australia for 264 runs and then successfully chased the target, winning by 4 wickets.
