England Announces 15-Member T20I and ODI Squads for India Tour and 2025 Champions Trophy

by Prakash Reddy V

The England team won't have Ben Stokes for the Champions Trophy next year in February and March. Stokes, who's the Test captain, hasn't been in an ODI game since the 2023 World Cup. But, he did mention he was thinking about playing white-ball cricket again after Brendon McCullum became the head coach for that format in September.

Stokes hurt his leg muscle again while playing in the New Zealand Test series recently. Because of this, even though he was 33 when the England and Wales Cricket Board released the news regarding the 15-man group on Sunday, his name wasn't on the list.

Earlier this year, Stokes also missed the summer series against Sri Lanka and the first Test against Pakistan because of hamstring problems.

In a statement, the ECB said: "Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes was not considered for selection as he continues to be assessed following a left hamstring injury sustained during the third Test match against New Zealand earlier this month."

Jos Buttler is becoming captain once more. It's been over a year but Joe Root is joining the team again. The last time England played in the West Indies for the ODI series, Buttler wasn't playing. In addition, Joe hasn't played international white-ball cricket for more than a year.

Jofra Archer has proved his fitness and made the squad, while fellow fast bowler Saqib Mahmood has also been included despite limited chances recently. Jacob Bethell earned his spot after a strong performance in the Test series in New Zealand.

Starting in January in India, the team's going to play five T20Is and three ODIs before going to the Champions Trophy. Joe Root is joining the group for the ODI matches but spinner Rehan Ahmed is only remaining for the T20 games and won't be in the ODI series.
